  the sPARC gap

Nominating Committee Seeks Input

s we approach the June General Meeting, we have one essential piece of business that hits the club each year:  elections of officers and Directors.  We have a couple of vacancies this year that need committed individuals to fill.

Pat Kennedy, KD7HDP, has been a member of PARC for 4 years and an officer for 3.  He has announced his intention not to run for any office, much less for re-election as Recording Secretary.  We've had trouble getting people to run for that position in the past, and it does entail some serious responsibilities.

The lack of local employment has affected the ability of John Rollins KD7BCY, to effectively serve as Vice President.  Indeed, he left Portland in early April to under-take job training in Salt Lake City, and we don't know yet when he'll be back to stay (as much as long-haul truckers stay around one location for any length of time).  Therefore, in the absence of any word to the contrary, there appears to be a current vacancy in the office of Vice President, and we probably should be looking to nominate a successor to John.

Since John Pinkerton, K7ZSK, has chosen to run for re-election as President, we will be needing to slate a candidate for the one-year Directorship normally filled by the immediate Past President.  To recap, we have running incumbents (that are known) for President and for Treasurer/Membership Secretary (combined position).  We may need to fill the Vice Presidency, and we will need candidates for Recording Secretary and for a 1-year Directorship.  Members of the Nominating Committee may only run for office as nominees from the floor of the June meeting.

If you are thinking of running for one of these vacant positions, or as a challenger for any position on the Board, the appropriate Articles in the By-Laws that define the responsibilities of the elected positions appear below, appending this article.

The 2004 Nominating Committee consists of Lea Ball, AL7W; Bruce McCain, N7XB; and  John White, K7RUN.  Please contact any one of them to indicate interest in running, or to suggest a nomination.  We need your input!
