  the sPARC gap

April, 2004

Bits and Pieces

he ARRL is conducting an election in the Oregon Section for Section Manager.  As I said last month, we're seeing 2 former PARC officers facing each other.  I find it very interesting that the current incumbent hasn't seen fit to do more than show up for one club meeting since he was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the misguided recall of the previous elected SM.  His challenger has enjoyed a more recent and closer relationship with PARC, including a couple of years as club President.  That's not to say that one candidate is better than the other; knowing them both makes me aware of both individuals' strong and weak points.  If you are a current League member, you need to actively participate in this election and get your ballot in.  You have until just after the May meeting to get it in.  Don't wait.

We are faced with another dilemma.  SeaPac is on our usual meeting weekend, this year.  If we don't meet on the 18th of June (and we might have quorum issues in Portland or Seaside), we need to do it the next week, after putting up the Field Day antennas.  There is precedent for that course of action (we used to meet routinely on the 4th Friday).
