President's Message

s 2003 winds to a close it gives me pause to reflect on the year we've come through and the changes that have impacted us as a community both as amateurs and citizens of this great nation. We have seen the  closing of some Amateur license classes and the debate over deleting the code requirement for others, the attempts to put into effect a communications system over the power grid (BPL), the retirement and passing of some prominent Amateurs, changes in our ARRL organization as they attempt to better serve us through a more effective organizing of personnel and departments, along with changes in QST and a more aggressive marketing of publications and on line training classes.

We'e seen a war fought in two Middle Eastern countries that we're not sure should have been fought or that our involvement will change what has gone on for hundreds of years over there. Lives of our soldiers and associated government personnel have been lost (including members of the Amateur community) and our thoughts go out to those families especially at this time of year.

Just a reminder about upcoming events. We are still accepting donations to the ARRL fund for BPL through the club to supplement the contribution approved by our Board of Directors at their November meeting..

Our December dinner meeting is the 20th at Shenanigans on Swan Island.  Reservations should be made as soon as possible as there is limited seating and you won't want to miss out on a great time of eating, talking with friends and a great program about the Friend-ship Radiosport Games. See you there!
