New ARRL Memberships Benefit PARC Treasury

f you are considering joining the American Radio Relay League, or if you are rejoin-ing after a lapse of 2 years or more, you can really help the PARC treasury by joining via the club. PARC will receive $15 from the ARRL for each membership we process. ARRL membership is now $39 per year, and includes 12 issues of QST magazine. For more information on how you can help PARC, contact us at W7LT@arrl.net, or call 503-771-1773 and leave a message.

President's Message

ommitment! A word that can have a lasting effect on everyone! We all have a certain level to which we aspire and areas that are crucial to our success and enjoyment of life.

As amateurs, we face the daunting challenge of supporting those who fight for our hobby in all of the political arenas. Broadband over Power Lines has become a real and present danger to the use of any of the frequencies below 30 Mhz. Hopefully, those who can influence the mainstays in this project to bring the Internet to all of our homes via the power grid can convince them that the damage that will be done will spread far out-side just the amateur community! Whatever you feel you might be able to contribute to our lobby at ARRL HQ will be worthwhile. Even a letter or email will help them know the rest of the amateur community is out to help.

In the event that some level of BPL does come into existence, the resourcefulness of amateurs on the technology level could bring whole new systems of communications that might be able to mask the noise from power grid BPL.

Congratulations to new Volunteer Examiner Dennis Newton, AC7UY. See you all at the next meeting September 19, 2003.
