Portland Marathon: Help Wanted

unday, October 5th, PARC will be coordinating the ham radio communications system for the 2003 Port-land Marathon.   The operator positions include mile-posts, pick-up vans, and net control. We'll use APRS again to assist in tracking vehicles and bicycles both on and off the course.

We are now asking for operators who would like to assist by  volunteering for an assignment to contact the PARC Coordinators to be placed on the roster.  Contact W7PR or KD7HDP by e-mail or telephone and we will include you in the plans.

If you've helped in the past, we need your experience. If you are a new member, consider volunteering your skills, or let us know you want to learn. We'll gladly assign you to work with an experienced operator.

With 8000 or more runners each year our service is invaluable. It's an exciting event to help with, and you get a Marathon T-shirt! APRS skills and ride along operators are needed for the 5 pickup vans this year.

You can contact us by e-mailing  w7pr@arrl.net or  kd7hdp@arrl.net or call 503-771-1773 (msg) to get on the roster now or for more info.

Former PARC President Ed Burress, KC7GFX, mans the APRS position at the 2002 Marathon Net Control.  We use APRS to track the pick-up vans and the escort bicycles on the course.

Area VHF and UHF SSB Nets

ingle Sideband (SSB) doesn't end at 10 meters in the Portland Metro area! A great group of SSB enthusi-asts operate on 6 and 2 meters, and 70 centimeters. There are three nets that meet each week. Horizontal antennas are advised. So break out the multimode rig and join in!
