Tower and Gear for Sale

will soon be moving to North Carolina and need to sell my 52 ft. Hi-Gain crank up, free standing, tower and Ham II rotator. I think that they should be worth around $350, but would be open to an offer. I also have a lot of ham junk that will eventually go to the landfill if no one wants it. Lots of transformers, chokes, coax, ladder line, etc., also have a Drake TR-4 in very good condition, with desk mic., for $200.

I am located in Dallas, OR. The tower must be gone before Aug. 30 as we will close escrow the week following.  Please contact me at 1-503-623-7884 to arrange a visit.

Portland Marathon Volunteers Needed

he Portland Marathon will take place Sunday, October 5th. PARC is again coordinating the Amateur Radio communications systems for mile-post, medical, APRS, and transport reporting and control for Marathon management. We are now asking for operators who would like to assist by  volunteering for an assignment to contact the PARC Coordinators to be placed on the roster.  Contact W7PR or KD7HDP by e-mail or telephone and we will include you in the plans. The operator positions include mile-posts, pickup vans, and net control. We'll use APRS again to assist in tracking vehicles and bicycles both on and off the course. If you have APRS skills or equipment let us know at w7pr@juno.com , kd7hdp@arrl.net , or call 503-771-1773 and leave a message.

A Word From Our Section Manager

ell, I've been recycled. I don't know if that is good or bad. For you who didn't know or forgot, I was Section Manager for 12 years and decided that it was long enough. I didn't run in 1998. Here I am five years later, back at it. First thing I need to say is that there will be no change in the present personnel. It will take me some time to get to know all of the new people and how well they are performing their job. In the future I will try and visit as many clubs as I can, depending on the distance.

Next thing I have to do is to learn this new Web Site business. In 1998, it was just getting started. So again give me some time to get educated as to the workings. Be patient on my responding to E-mails as I was inundated with them. I am going down to Bandon OR. to a Ham fair and will report next month.

WA7AXO New Multnomah County EC

s District 1 Emergency Coordinator for the Oregon Section, ARRL, I am pleased to appoint Bert L. Younglove, WA7AXO, as Emergency Coordinator for Multnomah County.  Bert replaces Eric Stephenson, KK7UE, who has had to step down due to family medical problems.  I want to personally thank Eric for his efforts and successes as EC.  He has been, and remains, very dedicated to amateur radio, as well as ARES/RACES.  I wish him and his family the best and look forward to his active return soon.

Bert is an Extra Class and a ARRL member; he has a great deal of expertise.  He has been very active in Multnomah County ARES/RACES as the AEC for Training, and participates in virtually all SETS and activities.  He has a strong community service attitude and is a member of his local Portland Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET).   He has large support from the Multnomah County ARES/RACES group and has been strongly recommended by the outgoing EC, Eric Stephenson, KK7UE.   I am very pleased at this appointment.

Please join me in welcoming Bert, WA7AXO to this position as EC.  I ask that all of you support him in his new job.
