ARRL Needs Your Help in BPL Issue

Ed. Note:  At the October meeting, we had a presentation of the work of Ed Hare, W1RFI, on the tests in Emmaus, PA, of Broadband Over Power Lines (BPL).  The effects are frightful:  The trash put out by this attempt at using antennas to convey the Internet completely shut down the 20-meter band.  The FCC is insistent on giving Part 15 devices equal or greater standing with Part 97 (and other regulated) services.  Congressional reversal of this action may become necessary, if the Commission fails to act responsibly toward the currently-licensed users of the HF spectrum.  PARC is collecting funds from members to for-ward to the League in their efforts to foil the attempts of Big Business to waste invaluable natural resources, in the form of RF spectrum.

From the PARC Officers & Directors:

ARC is encouraging contributions to the ARRL fund to help fight BPL, the "Broadband over Power Lines" proposal, which threatens to flood the High Frequency spectrum with high noise levels while delivering Internet service via the power grid.  This would render HF unusable for many amateur radio operators.

You can send contributions to the ARRL direct, or to PARC, where your donation will be combined with those from other members and an appropriation from the PARC treasury.

The ravages of BPL.  This was taken during field tests in Emmaus, PA,  by W1RFI.  Only exceedingly strong local signals could get through the noise generated by BPL signals transmitted over the power lines… the noise registers S9.

PARC will present the ARRL with a check, or checks, for all proceeds designated to fight BPL. Please make your check payable to PARC and specify it for the ARRL BPL Fund. This is a tax-deductible donation. Now is the time to fight this proposal, and it takes money to do it. The ARRL is leading the opposition and needs our support now.

Please bring your contributions to the November 21 meeting, or mail them to:
