can be a real laugh-riot with a serious technical overlay. I always learn something and have a great time doing it. Now, what hath they wrought? Well, the biggest project is probably the new digital mode repeater for 147.18. This repeater will replace the RTTY repeater which Ted W7WWG donated to the club a number of years ago and which, sadly, has become out-moded by the digital revolution. Together with the W7LT packet node which Wayne WA7NE has been working on, the club will be able make a significant contribution to the packet network not only in the Portland area, but throughout the Willamette Valley. We showed off some of this new gear at the August general meeting and had a great discussion regarding how it should be used. Ken N7QQU, a state Assistant EC, Capt'n Bill Morris W7IH, from the Emergency Services Bureau, and Perry KD7EYM, Portland EC, also joined in the discussion, and I thought I should use my Sparcgap allotment this month to relate the conversation to the rest of the club.
